Pressing On
with Allen Bach and Clay O'Brien Cooper
as told to Dee Ann Burkes

"I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14

Incorruptible Seed

Allen: Have you ever thought about how an orange is made? The orange starts as a seed. Then that seed becomes an orange tree and eventually produces more oranges. The oranges are good oranges because they came from a good seed. The same is true with our relationship with God. We are born of an incorruptible seed – God. We came from the seed of God, made in his image, made perfect.

Clay: Just like the seed that creates a good orange because the seed it grew from was good, so is our life with God. We have the same ingredients he does. Because his seed is perfect, we are perfect and cannot go bad because his seed is incorruptible. God sees you as perfect. He sees your end result. He doesn’t see the seed – he sees that beautiful mature orange tree bearing fruit. The secret is that once you realize you are already perfect, then your perfection will come into a visible reality in your life. You are prefect whether you realize it or not, but you can only come into that perfection when you see that’s how God made you all along. You are as perfect as you will ever be, but if you decide that your actions defile your perfection, then you are saying your actions are more powerful than the incorruptible seed of God. But that’s not true – nothing you do is more powerful than what God has done in you.

Allen: You are perfect, but you must see it and realize it for yourself for it to manifest itself into reality in your life. Like you said Clay – God sees us as perfect right now. We can’t see it, but it’s true and once we see the truth of who we really are in God’s eyes, we’ll be changed into the image of what we see.

Clay: God has predestined us for a purpose. He sees us as the end result – he sees us as overcomers, more than conquerors, delivered from all temporal evils. He sees us as prosperous, healthy, abounding in all good things and living a purposeful life. We don’t really know what we are capable of. When we are born of the incorruptible seed we have been given the ability that is far above any natural ability we possess. As we meditate on God’s word and study it, we make our way prosperous. As we mature in God’s word, it unveils God’s promises for us and gives us an awareness of our potential.

Allen: As we think more about him being an incorruptible seed dwelling in us, there’s no telling what we are capable of. Not because of ourselves, but because of God. We are overcomers because “the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”(1 John 4:4) Now you know there is an incorruptible seed in you that will never die. That good and perfect person in you will grow, you will be perfected more daily. You will have his attributes and qualities – because you are his seed. We are capable of becoming more and more like him every day if we keep putting the word in us and keeping the junk out of our lives. When you do that, you can then do all things through Christ who strengthens you. (Philippians 4:13)

Clay: We are all at different stages, we’re all growing. We all need to give God free reign to work in us the plan which he purposed. Slowly but surely we will realize the magnitude with which God can work in us. A lot of us have been put in a sphere in the western world, the roping and horse industry. So we are part of that group of people. You don’t have to be a world’s champion or noted figure, God can use you where you are at, through your work, your family, your friends. God has put me in a place to fulfill a destiny and a purpose – and that’s what my life should be about – my purpose for him. If I abide in him and he in me, that’s the place where I will find my joy, peace and fulfillment -- not only on this earth, but for eternity. Our goals of achieving things in the natural world are just icing on the cake. We owe our deliverance to Jesus, who took sin upon himself so we could share in his inheritance and be saved. Salvation means deliverance, soundness, health, prosperity, wholeness and more. All these riches are freely given to us, not because we earned it or deserve it, but because we are born again of the incorruptible seed of God (1 Peter 1:23) .

Allen: We have to come to a place that we realize we have a great inheritance because God is our father. It’s like saying “Superman is my dad.” God is the Superman in our lives. The only reason we are worthy of any of those riches you mentioned, Clay, is because God is our heavenly father. God is my father, Jesus is my savior and the Holy Spirit is my comforter. I’m not worthy because I’m a Christian and I’ve learned not to cuss and drink. God sees us as worthy because we are his children. He extended his hand and offered me the opportunity to be in his family and call me “son,” and I accepted. Did your own children earn you as parents? No – they have a born existence with you. God sees us as his children and wants that special father-child relationship with us. One of the best illustrations I saw of that was a picture I saw in Life magazine. There was a picture of President John F. Kennedy sitting at his desk in the oval office. He was working at his desk and in the background there were security guards and secret service men protecting him from all sides and keeping everyone away from the President. Then on the floor by his desk Caroline and John Jr. were playing with toys. Why? Because they were his children. Did they earn that right? No. It was because they were the president’s kids. They had a special inheritance and a special right to be with him. They didn’t earn it; they were born of it. It is the same with us. We can be born again and receive the special inheritance from God. Each of us has access to that inheritance – to the incorruptible seed. The more of the Bible we get in us, the more the Holy Spirit can take the word and through it give us power and strength. God’s word is what helps the incorruptible seed grow within us and become the beautiful perfect being that God already sees. We will have struggles, but we have everything we need to overcome those struggles.

Clay: Without the Word, there is no basis for faith; there is nothing to believe in. Get more of the Word in you – watch how it empowers and influences your life. Let that incorruptible seed grow inside you. Give God free reign and experience his perfection and inheritance for you.
